couldn't stop with just one

Yup, that first domino pendant was so much fun to make I was compelled to make another one. This time I added broken glass. The UTEE coats everything so there are no sharp edges.

first domino pendant

I now know why people say domino art can be addictive. It's fun! For my first domino pendant, I used my dremel to carve an area in the domino for a piece of stamped wood to rest. I glued a piece of Mat Stack paper to the domino back, applied Adirondack alcohol inks to the entire domino, attached the wood with glue, and applied several layers of UTEE to the entire piece. When the UTEE had thoroughly hardened, I free-formed a pendant loop from wire, slipped it on a Blue Moon chain, added a clasp and it's ready-to-go. I'm ready to do it again!

damn left brain

This is a first. DH is at a poker game tonight so I have a Friday evening alone. I haven't created anything for awhile so desperately want to break that pattern. I'm staring at a blank slate and not sure where to begin. My left brain provides the paycheck and doesn't play nice with the right brain. Right brain wants to create with wild abandon. Fear is in the shadows, trying to take me.

I think I'll put my apron & tunes on, light some incense and see what happens.....

sunshine on a stem

I stopped by the store this afternoon for some juice and as I was walking in, spotted a bundle of yellow daisies. As it had been cloudy & gray most of the day, the bright yellow called to me in a way not to be refused. I checked the price and grinned... yes, I could indulge. Entering our home, I grabbed my favorite green pitcher, filled it with water and began arranging. As I did, the clouds passed and sunshine poured through the windows.

I think Emma Goldman said it best:

Later, when I downloaded the pictures from my camera, I took a few minutes to play. I love seeing what different effects the various photo software will have on pictures. One of my favorites is negative ~ especially when the real color is yellow. The resulting blue is my favorite color.

If you want to see some pretty cool examples of negative photos, check this post from Tracey at Wadsworth Noll Studio:

in my prime

In prime numbers, I turned 15 yesterday, and what a fun day it was! I used coupons and gift cards for more art supplies. At the book store, I picked up the latest issues of Art Jewelry, Belle Armoire Jewelry and Somerset Digital Studio. I hadn't opened one of the Digital Studios before and am excited to dive in and see what's inside. Throughout the day, most of my family called to sing happy birthday &/or meet up with us for supper. The weather was fantastic and I have another good memory!

I hope you all enjoyed St. Patrick's Day yesterday also! TTFN ~ have to work today, but not a full day, so there will be time to play/create! I'm a happy girl...

it's my favorite holiday!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Put on some green, grab a mug, throw your troubles to the wind and enjoy one of the best holidays there is! Nearly everyone is in good spirits on this day and... thanks to the best parents possible, I'm blessed to call this my birthday. I love it! Unless my fabulous husband is under-the-weather, we'll be out and about enjoying green beer and what-not (no corned beef & cabbage for me though.... I'm pescetarian). I hope you have a fantastic day too!

May the best day of your past be the worst day of your future!

they turned it off; I turned it on

How fortuitous it was our internet went down mid-afternoon Saturday. With no internet I had no excuse last night to do anything but create. I made a card for a birthday party I attended today (my Mom turns 78 March 21) & earrings to match a blouse. I also drilled holes in a few dominoes so I can see what that craze is all about. I can't wait to experiment!

is wireless without strings?

I made time tonight to open the March/April Somerset Studio. I enjoy fixing a cup of hot tea or pouring a glass of wine and snuggling into my favorite reading chair for each publication. This month's Letter from the Editor struck a chord with me. Jenny Doh talks about how plugged in we all are and how that impacts us. Her last paragraph hit home... "How lucky are we that we have all the tools to show ourselves off? How challenged are we to turn off all the tools to allow ourselves the time to become who we need to become." She signed it "Sometimes on, sometimes off, Jenny Doh."

I can spend hours blog-surfing, managing emails, etc. By the time I get email cleaned up, it's passed bedtime & I have no time or energy left to create. I need to change. If you are succeeding at fitting in creative time, I'd love to hear your tips. Please post a comment and share your thoughts if you're willing!
